Saundra Kay (Vig) Burns, age 82, of Santa Fe, Texas and a former longtime resident of Conroe, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2025 at UTMB League City surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 28, 1942, in Minot, North Dakota to Arthur J. and Thora E Vig, Saundra was just 6 or 7 when the family moved to Paulsbo, Washington. There she attended high school until she met William Robert "Bobby" Burns, Jr of Houston, TX, who was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington while serving in the U.S. Army. To say it was love at first sight would be stretching the truth, as Saundra rebuffed Bobby's initial attempt to ask her out. In fact, she told him to "Go to Hell". But he kept persisting and she finally relented.
After marrying, the couple relocated to Houston, Texas, for a about ten years before eventually settling in Conroe to raise their two children, Eddie and Kristen.
A dedicated and hard-working partner, Saundra helped run the family business, Burns Radiator, where her strong work ethic and dependable spirit were always evident. She later worked as a cafeteria worker at Travis Junior High School in Conroe ISD. Then went to Sawyer Crystal Systems where she worked her way up to Chip Room Supervisor bringing care and pride to everything she did.
Above all, Saundra, or "Farmor" as she was called by her grandsons, cherished her role as a grandmother. She was a constant source of love, support, and fierce devotion to her four grandsons-Jackson, Jace, Grant and Connor. Her legacy lives on through the many memories made and lessons taught to the generations she loved so deeply. One of her favorite sayings was "Big things come in small packages". Even though Farmor barely stood 5 foot tall, she instilled in everyone that you never let size discourage you from any task or chore!
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Arhtur and Thora Vig, brother Robert Vig, sisters Delores Nerwinski and Arlene Roberts, and her loving husband of 40 years William Robert "Bobby" Burns, Jr. She is survived by her sister Pauline Carrico of Monument, Co, and her sons Steve and Mark, son Eddie Burns and wife Sheri of Waco, TX, daughter Kristen Pfaff and her husband Bob, of Santa Fe, TX and her four beloved and deeply cherished grandsons Jackson Burns, Jace Burns, Connor Pfaff, and Grant Pfaff, whom she was all extremely proud of. Niece Lou Ann Pennington and her husband Bob and Nephew Roger Nerwinski.
Her warmth, tenacity, and unwavering love for her family will never be forgotten.
Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in The Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors with the Rev. Ray Hyden officiating.
