Stephen Mattox Obituary

Stephen Mattox, age 67, passed away on December 4, 2014. He was born June 2, 1947 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Steve spent the last nine months of his life at Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston waiting for a match for a heart and kidney. On November 23, 2014 he received a heart and on November 24, 2014 a kidney, but due to complications, he lost his fight for a new life.

Steve was a devorted husband, step-father and step-grandfather (step-family does not feel right as he never had children of his own so Pat's family was his family while in Texas). He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Hays Mattox, step-son Bryan Chick and wife Grace, step-daughter Torri Morrell and husband James, step-son Tony Meier and wife JoLynn, step-granddaughters Taylor and Morgan Morell, step-grandsons Evan and Easton Meier, sister in law Carol Mattox and nephews Matthew, Adam and Stephen Mattox. He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen A. Mattox, mother, Charlene Lillian Holly and brother, Michael David Mattox.

Steve went to college in Iowa to become an accountant, enjoyed golf and was a good standing Elk and served as an Elk's club manager in Council Bluffs before moving to Texas almost thirty years ago. He said that he liked Texas because he did not have to shovel snow like in Iowa. In Texas, he became a locksmith and opened his own shop and mobile business before becoming employed by Klein ISD as one of their locksmiths. He retired from Klein ISD on June 30th, 2013. He was a long-time coin collector, loved crossword puzzles, sudoku, and reading newspapers.

Steve will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on December 20, 2014 at 11AM at the First United Methodist Church of Willis in the Family Life Center.
