Allerson "Chief" Farmer, 93, of Russellville died Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, at Russellville Nursing & Rehab. He was born May 5, 1932, in Trout, La., to Alex and Della Paddie Farmer. He married Lucy Mae Mackey on Aug. 30, 1957, in Russellville, and together they shared 68 years of marriage.
Farmer was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and later worked as an inspector with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. A devoted Christian, he was a longtime member of Gumlog Fellowship Church, where he served as a pianist, guitarist, deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He loved singing, playing music, telling stories, auctioneering and never met a stranger. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; three brothers; and his in-laws, Millie and Leonard Mackey.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy Mae Farmer of Russellville; a daughter, Connie (Lee) Melton of Mississippi; three grandchildren, April Case, John McCready and Ashley McCready; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alex Farmer Jr. and R.G. Farmer; a sister, Grace Allen; a nephew, Ron (Annette) Mackey; two great-nephews, Tanner (Payton) Mackey and Sumner (Shaylor) Mackey; a great-great-nephew, Cedar Mackey; and a goddaughter, Becky Baker.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, at Humphrey Chapel with Bro. Jess Neal officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul Cemetery in Dover under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
