Billy Charles Garland, age 90, of Dover, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2022, at his home. The son of Herman and Baby Sue Fisher Garland, he was born Oct. 22, 1931, in Mulberry, Ark.
He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tenn., and has written over 2,000 songs of which at least 35 were published.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in California where he taught Sunday School and enjoyed playing his guitar in church and for funerals.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois Garland; first wife, Dorothy Ann Garland; daughter, Christina Garland.
Billy is survived by his son, William C. Garland (Barbara); daughter, Brenda Sue Paul; his granddaughter, Ashley Croy; four additional grandchildren; a great-grandchild; his caregiver, Tiffany Crawley; and two brothers, Jerry D. Garland and Paul T. Garland.
Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Humphrey Chapel. Rev. Rick Smith will officiate. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery in Russellville by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
