2021
David Lynn Staggs, age 70, left this world and a hole in our hearts on Sept. 28, 2021. He was born March 4, 1951, in Brownsville, Texas, to Duel Brooks Staggs and Agnes Maxcine Simmons Staggs.
David will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He loved the outdoors and along with Gaynell, his wife of 50 years, passed this love onto their children. He was always involved in his children's activities.
David was Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 228 in Atkins, and he guided his son to achieving the Boy Scout rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement attainable in the Boy Scouts. David also pitched in with his daughter's Girl Scout Troop, selling the most cookies in the troop nearly every year. He was a great band dad, driving buses, setting up gear and chaperoning trips.
David loved the family tradition of pumpkin carving every year. He was a master carver (second only to his daughter). He was incredibly proud of his grandchildren, attending every performance and activity possible to the very end. David loved cheering on the Razorbacks and anyone playing Texas or Notre Dame. Thankfully God saw fit to let him see the Hogs trounce the Longhorns one last time.
David was a proud member of the Atkins Red Devil class of 1969. He drove a school bus for the district for many years and cherished his friends and co-workers at the Atkins bus shed. He was also a charter member of the Atkins First Response Team and an EMTA.
David is preceded in death by his parents; left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gaynell; his daughter, Adriane and Jamie Travis; son, Toby Staggs and his fiancée Pam Owen; grandchildren, Dustin Staggs, Maddox and Brier Tyson, Aaron, Matthew and Taylor Travis; brothers, Roy and Kaye Staggs, Randy and Debbie Staggs, Richard and Lawanna Staggs, and Phillip and Amy Staggs; brother-in-law, Jamie and Gladys Hays; sister-in-law, Carol Ridling; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Lemley Chapel with Bro. Bryan Sims and Bro. Jamie Travis officiating.
Burial will be in Atkins City Cemetery under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers are Aaron Travis, Matthew Travis, Jake Stanley, Dylan Stanley, Danny Higgins and Britt Simmons.
