Vernon was instrumental in starting a Navy reunion for the first ship he was on, the USS Colonial LSD 18. Vernon truly lived life to the fullest. He loved flying his own airplane in his younger days, but most of all, he loved playing golf every day with his buddies. He was blessed with a great group of guys who were there for him even when he struggled to play.
