Kay Pledger Wray, 77, a cherished educator of Russellville, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. A proud Yell County girl, she was the beloved daughter of Clarence M. Pledger and Evelyn (Keathley) Pledger, born on January 28, 1947 in Danville. On July 23, 1966, Kay exchanged vows with the love of her life, Lewis H. Wray in Clarksville, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey together. A 1968 graduate of Arkansas Tech, Kay earned her degree in Education and later went on to receive her Master's Degree from the University of Central Arkansas.
Kay's passion for education flourished at Sequoyah Elementary School for four decades, where she touched the lives of numerous students and colleagues as a devoted fifth-grade teacher and compassionate school counselor. Her legacy of kindness, compassion, and love resonated deeply with all who had the privilege of knowing her, especially the children whom she counseled during times of need.
Kay was a loyal and steadfast supporter of Lewis and was his ultimate cheerleader through his coaching, military, and equine endeavors. In the same way, Kay loved her boys, Hunter and Scott, guiding them through life's milestones with wisdom and encouragement. Her heart swelled with joy upon welcoming her grandchildren, Tinley, Paisley, Hadley, Max, and Baxley, along with her cherished daughter-in-law Maggie, into her life.
A faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Russellville, Kay actively participated in the United Women in Faith and the Sunshine Gang, embodying her dedication to faith and community. She also generously contributed her time to various philanthropic endeavors, including the Mistletoe Market Committee, where she helped raise funds for organizations such as the River Valley Boys and Girls Club, the Age-to-Age Organization, and Manna House.
Kay's memory will forever be treasured by her husband of 57 years, Lewis Wray, her devoted sons and daughter-in-law, Hunter Maxwell Wray and Maggie Wray, and Scott Wray, and her beloved grandchildren, Tinley, Paisley, Hadley, Max, and Baxley. She also leaves behind a host of family and friends who were deeply touched by her love and generosity.
A memorial service celebrating Kay's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at First United Methodist Church in Russellville, officiated by Pastor Lauren DeLano and Pastor Tony Griffin. Following the service, a time of visitation with the family will be held at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Manna House at 304 South Commerce Ave, Russellville, AR 72801. Kay was one of the sweetest ladies I knew. Every time I saw her or spent time with her, she had a smile on her face and that smile would shine through everyone around her. She will be greatly missed!
