Michael McGowan Obituary

Michael Matthew McGowan, better known to his friends and family as "Magoo," left us on July 9, 2025.

Born in Russellville, AR on August 10, 1951, to Gilbert and Margaret McGowan, Michael was a charismatic and spirited individual who embodied the essence of living life to the fullest. His adventurous spirit guided him throughout his life, leading him on countless journeys.

Michael was a man who was unapologetically himself, living his life on his own terms. His infectious laughter and funny anecdotes were the highlights of gatherings and parties. Mike was a darn good football player and received a football scholarship to Arkansas Tech University where his team was runner up in the National Championships.

Michael is survived by his brother John McGowan, sister Patty Gilbert, and nieces and nephews – Lynn Avery, Logan McGowan, Hannah Montgomery, Cole McGowan, and Kate Hilton. He is preceded in death by his mother Margaret McGowan, father Gilbert "Mac" McGowan, and brother-in-law Ricky Gilbert. Each of them holds a place in their heart for Michael, cherishing the memories of his adventurous spirit and banter.

As we remember Michael, we invite friends and family to share their memories, stories, and photographs on his memorial page. In doing so, we keep Michael's spirit alive, remembering him as the adventurous, charismatic, and funny soul that he was. His independent spirit and love for life continue to inspire us, reminding us to live each day to the fullest, just as he did.

Cremation arrangements are provided by the J. Herman Humphrey Dignity Cremation Center under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.

MAGOO & I were roommates our first semester at TECH! Quarterbacks & receivers had to report 2 weeks before the rest of the team. I didn´t have a car at the time, so MAGOO came on out to the dorm to stay with me & the few others that were there. He took me all over Russellville, in the "FIRE ENGINE", introducing me to friends & getting me oriented with the City.
He will be missed!!!!
