Charles P. (Charlie) Merkh

AGE: 93 • Pennsauken

Died Sunday, February 1, 2015 at his home in Pennsauken, NJ. He was 93.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen (Siegfried) Merkh. He is the father of Chuck Merkh (Nancy) of Turnersville, NJ, Janet Merkh Evancho (George) of Lewes, DE and Bob Merkh (Kathy) of Egg Harbor Twp., NJ. He is survived by his grandchildren, Michele Lovera (Jake), Jeannette Comito (Joe), Katelin Merkh, Megan Evancho, Kelsey Evancho, Kim Yurcisin (Greg), Scott Evancho (deceased), Kelli Lippincott (David), Brian Evancho (Lisa), Bob Merkh, Jr. (Stacy), and Michael Merkh. His great grandchildren include, Isabel Lovera, Gianna Comito, Colin, Kylie and Caitlyn Yurcisin, Hunter and Zack Lippincott, Layla, Luke and Wyatt Merkh, River and Jackson Evancho and Cody Obler.

He is the son of the late John G. Merkh and Lydia Schiagenhauf Merkh. He is predeceased by his siblings, Marie, Lydia, George, Walter, Paul and Alfred. His brother Raymond (Corrine) lives in Acton, MA.

Charlie earned his living working as a Tool and Die maker. He worked with his brother George at Crescent Tool and Machine Co. in Pennsauken and later with his brother Paul at Tri Products in Bellmawr, NJ He retired at 80 years old.

Charlie was an avid fisherman and was a long time member of the Merchantville Fishing Club and the beach Buggy Assn. He served as President of the Merchantville Fishing Club for many years.

Charlie loved Long Beach Island where he and Helen vacationed in the summer. He could always be found on the beach in Holgate with his line in the water.

His other love was the house in the Pocono Mountains at Robinhood Lakes where he loved to fish and sled with his children and grandchildren.

Charlie was a great father, grandfather, uncle and neighbor. He was always in attendance at his children's sporting events and activities. The family picnics at our home were epic with Charlie entertaining the kids with his magic tricks and jokes. His children and grandchildren will remember his pancakes and his secret recipe barbecue sauce.

A memorial service is planned on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Alloway Funeral Home in Merchantville, NJ Friends may call between 10 am-11:30 am.
