Frank Amato Obituary

Frank A. Amato

AGE: 84 • Haddon Heights

Frank A. Amato, age 84. On February 20, 2017 Frank passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Longtime resident of Haddon Heights, formerly of Camden, he is survived by his loving wife Rita Mae (nee DiCerbo) of 56 wonderful years. Devoted father of Francine Patterson (Mike), Judy Stokes (Cliff) and Debbie Frank (Bill). Loving grandfather of Angela, Michael, Gabrielle, William, Morgan, Sammy and Julia. Dear brother of Roxy Amato (the late Estelle), Theresa Gallucci (the late Armand), Marie Amato, Anthony Amato (Cheryl), the late John Amato and the late Joseph Amato (the late Jackie). Brother-in-law of Anne Amato. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Frank proudly served in the U.S. Army overseas during the Korean Conflict, and was part of a select group of soldiers chosen to witness the Atomic bomb testing in the Nevada desert. His education at Camden Catholic High School (1951) and Temple University prepared him for his career in civil engineering. He was a Principal Engineer for the Camden County Highway Department for over 40 years.

Frank was a member of Knights of Columbus Holy Child Council #3532 and a former parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish in Mt. Ephraim as well as Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Camden. Throughout his life, Frank was a great witness to the Catholic faith. He was especially devoted to the Sacred Heart, the Holy Rosary and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, all of which were part of his daily life. A quiet and compassionate man, Frank's kind and gentle nature made him unforgettable to everyone he met. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed family trips to Ocean City and Wildwood, Sunday dinners with his daughters and their families, as well as attending sporting events, school activities and dance performances of his grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing from 6 to 9pm Sunday evening and 9:15 to 10:15am Monday morning at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE. Funeral Mass will be held 11am Monday at Holy Child Parish, St. Teresa Roman Catholic Church, Runnemede. Entombment Calvary Mausoleum, Cherry Hill.
