George T. Hare, M.D.

AGE: 86 • Cherry Hill, formerly of Haddonfield

On June 17, 2017, Beloved husband of JoAnn (nee Mathias); Loving father of Tom (Judianne) of Pennington, NJ, Patricia Hare of Cherry Hill, NJ and the late John M and David A.; Cherished grandfather of Kyle (Brooke Green) Bragger, Erin (Chris) Fox, Kaelyn Bragger, and Cole & Charlotte Hare. Treasured great grandfather of Oliver Mathias, Nolan Fox and Willa Bragger.

In 1930, George was born in Barrington, NJ. He graduated from Haddon Heights HS in 1948 and a bachelor's degree in biology from Gettysburg College in 1952. He was inducted in the Haddon Heights HS and Gettysburg College Sports Hall of Fame in 1991 and 1995, respectively. Following college he had an opportunity to play professional baseball for the Cleveland Indians but George decided to continue his education at the New York Medical College where he received his MD degree in 1956. He had a distinguished medical career of more than 50 years in NJ & PA including Medical Director of Camden County (N.J.) Health Services Center. George established and headed not only the Division of Geriatric Medicine at the Cooper Medical Center but also the first palliative care unit in a long-time care facility in the state of NJ. George served as the secretary of the Camden County Medical Society, as a member of the Gettysburg Board of Fellows, and his nation as a Major in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army Reserves.

He was deeply devoted to his family and anyone who really knew him could not help but respect, admire and love him dearly. He was a dedicated physician, who occasionally wondered how his life might have been if he had chosen to play professional sports, but never doubted that medicine was his calling. The countless lives he touched, healed and enriched through his long career give testimony to that fact. He was an avid golfer, loved playing the slots and hanging out with his dog and cats at home. He leaves behind many great memories and a legacy of caring, respect and commitment to excellence in everything he did.

Dr. Hare's family will receive friends on Friday, June 23rd, 10-10:45 AM, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 501 Green St, Haddon Heights, NJ; where his Memorial Service will follow at 11 AM. Interment, Locustwood Cem., Cherry Hill, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Dr. Hare may be made to the Voorhees Animal Orphanage, 419 Cooper Rd, Voorhees Township, NJ 08043 (http://www.vaonj.org/).

Dad,
It's two years now and it hurts just as badly. You are in my thoughts all the time... I miss you as much now as I did then. I still get pennies every day, and I still see that white butterfly even though we have moved. I have regrets- although there is so much that was done right. So many memories. I just took Oliver and your newest great grandchild to the beach- so painful. You will always fill my heart. I am so grateful you were my father. With love,
Pat

Dad I miss you every minute of every day. Nothing is the same.I know you are with me- you leave me pennies everywhere. I also believe you are that white butterfly that appeared the day after you left us. It follows me all around the yard. When you lose someone you love it never gets easier. It hurts just as much now as it did then. What a beautiful person you were. How lucky I was to have you in my life. I will see you again Dad. I love you always.

Good afternoon Dr....I'm here. Can I fill the bird feeders for you since we like to watch them, here is your newspaper and mail, what can I get you to eat? Drink? I cleaned the cat litter for you, they are hiding behind the bed, they miss you and so do I. I'm so happy I got to know you during our short time together in my caregiving role. I tried to unpack everything for you with the move. Joanne is going to needlepoint again. You and Joanne have all the gadgets! Thank you for offering me Chinese food with you and Joanne and thank you for the special pen. You are a sweetheart and I was glad to spend your 64th wedding anniversary with you and Joanne and seeing the photos. The grass is getting to get done now too. I bet you are watching....Goodbye Doctor....Is there a TV up there? Blue Bloods is on! I'm trying to sit still for a minute as you prescribed.
