James Francis (Jim) Walker, Sr.

James Francis (Jim) Walker Sr., 78 years old of Ocean City, NJ, passed away on September 19, 2017 at home surrounded by his children and family. He was born in November of 1939 to Daniel and Frances Walker in Philadelphia, PA. Jim was a graduate of St. Thomas More Catholic Boys High School in West Philadelphia where he also proudly played on their famed basketball teams ('forever more'). Jim went on to receive a bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania Military College in 1960 and also served in the U.S. Army. In 1962 Jim was married to Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Glaser. Jim and Beth first met in Ocean City, NJ in the 1950s where both had deep family roots. They settled in Cherry Hill, NJ and went on to have eight children including five daughters and three sons. Jim dedicated his entire professional career to DuPont, serving them for nearly 40 years.

In his earlier years, Jim spent time working (often traveling), shuttling kids, and attending extended family gatherings. One of his favorite respites was the daily journey to the store where he fulfilled Beth's list of groceries. After retirement, he moved to his beloved shore where he would live the rest of his days. He enjoyed attending Sunday mass, walking his dogs, watching the Phillies, visiting with grandchildren (fifteen in all) and taking in the sea breeze from his front porch while sharing a story. Jim was a devoted husband of over 54 years before his wife Beth passed in January 2016.

Jim is survived by his eight children James F. Walker, Jr. (Princeton, NJ), Mary E. Joran (Downingtown, PA), Amy W. O'Connor (Natick, MA), Kate Brubaker (West Windsor, NJ), Frank J. Walker (Vienna, VA), Krista Walker (Ocean City, NJ), Patrick S. Walker (Cherry Hill, NJ), and Kelly M. Wahl (Fairfax, VA), and of course the two dogs Riley and Fin.

Funeral and mass will be held on Monday September 25, 2017 at St. Francis Cabrini at 114 Atlantic Avenue in Ocean City, NJ. A visitation will begin at 10:00 with mass to commence at 11:00am.
