Joseph Michalak Obituary
Born in Canonsburg, Pa., he had been an area resident for the past 11 years and previously lived in Texas for 17 years. He retired from Bearings Inc. as a sales rep for over 30 years, Seiberling Tire & Rubber Co. for 12 years and recently retired from Giant Eagle in Wadsworth. Joe was also a proud U.S. Navy Veteran having served during the Korean War.
Joe will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his outgoing personality, his smile and most importantly making others smile. He was also an avid sports fan.
Joe leaves his loving wife of 54 years, Shirley A.; his children, Gregg (Peggy) Michalak, Kimberly (Rick) Ranostay and Brian and Joe Michalak; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brothers, Franklin (Mary Lou), Nelson (Kathi) and Donald (Brenda).
The family would like to thank Hospice of Summa for their excellent care.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2010, at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

Joe, you were the best coworker and friend anyone could ask for. Giant Eagle was my first real job and I'll never forget how funny and welcoming you were on that first day and every time I ever saw you. You always had the best sense of humor; take care in heaven.

Hi Dad,
We miss and love you so much.
We could write for hours about you with so many great memories. We're going to miss your smile, jokes and making everyone laugh. You always had something funny to say and brought a smile to our face through the good and bad times. Even in your last days when you were very sick and weak you still mustered up jokes and smiled to everyone around you.
You were always there for us (Mom, Kim, Greg, Joey and Brian). You were a simple man. Never asked for much but a good old fashioned home cooked meal from Mom! How about some of her homemade apple pie with vanilla ice cream? MMMmm good! I bet that made your mouth water even from heaven :-)
You always put us first in your life. Loved Mom to no end. Someone who was a great provider for his family. Brought us comfort and calm when needed. Was quick to help complete strangers in need. Had an awesome sense of humor - yes, you're dirty fork jokes at the restaurant will live on with us. We are blessed to have you as a father and husband for mom. Thank you dad and we ARE SO VERY PROUD OF YOU.
We'll all be together again one day in heaven.

To the Michalak Family,
I was so blessed to have known Joe. His love of life, people and family radiated from him. He trained and became good friends with my son, Steven, at Giant Eagle. My son always referred to Joe as "His Hero". He always was genuinely kind and joked with the customers, workers and children. We always talked about our families and I know from when you were sick (Mrs. Michalak) that you were Joe's rock!
Joe touched many people during his time here and will truely be missed. He was truely a wonderful person. I pray for your family for the days ahead without him. May God bless you all and give you the peace and comfort that only He can give. With our deepest sympathy. God bless you Joe and may you enjoy the eternal happiness you showered others with! To Joe, our Hero, you will truely be missed!

To the Michalak Family,
Joe was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I met him at Giant Eagle where he always had a smile on his face and always went out of his way to talk. He always asked about my family and genuinely seemed to care. There was always a hand shake for my son who is deaf and now also works at Giant Eagle. I know Joe touched many lives and he will be truely missed by all who knew him. My familys prayers are with your family. God Bless you all and God Bless Joe.
