As a volunteer delivering Kosher Meals to senior citizens throughout the community, I ran across many different individuals. Most showed their appreciation with a smile but others wanted to engage me in conversation. Either way was fine with me.
Terry Herskovitz was uniquely different. She would be waiting for me in the doorway of her apartment, always seeming alittle sheepish, who wanted me to understand just how appreciative she was that I was doing a kind service for her.
We grew to become friends throughout the nearly 4 years that I delivered meals to her. She gave me bottles of wine at the High Holidays, and once a scarf for hanukah. When I went off to Israel in May of 2017, I made it my point to find something there to bring home with me just for her.
Terry was a holocaust survivor. She had helped co-author a book about her travails as a young woman who experienced first-hand the worst atrocities of humankind behavior. Her book left an indelible mark on me.
I will always remember this vivacious woman with the sheepish grin, the generous heart, and her love for all she came in contact with.
Rest in Peace Terry.
