Nancy, we are so sorry for your loss. Your family will be in our prayers and if you need anything please let us know. Tommy was one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. A guy liked by everyone. Most would describe him as a Gentle Giant or a Big Teddy Bear. He never spoke bad about anyone and had one of the biggest hearts. He will be missed dearly by all his friends, coworkers and family. I was originally a coworker and later considered him a very good friend. I know he is in s better place, but wish he was with us a while longer......RIP Buddy!

Aunt Nanny,
I love you very much and I am so glad you are my Godmother. I am so sorry that the hysterical, loving Gentle Giant, (Concrete Feet Barton as we called him on the soccer field) is no longer with us. I will miss him very much, I will miss his jokes, and I wish I could be there to hug you tomorrow! I love you alot and I will think of you often. I can call and check on you to make sure you are ok. I love you both so much
Love your nephew and Godson,

My heart is broken at the loss of Tom. We lived together for awhile and not only did I gain a roommate but I felt like I gained a big brother. We had such great times together. We did so much together and even recently we still found time to see each other even if it was just for a haircut. He is a staple in my life and I will never forget his huge heart! I love you Tom and I'm glad I had the pleasure of knowing you.
Nancy, there are no words to make it better but you know I'm here for you always. I love you.

I've known Tom almost all my life. He was my brother's best friend for as long as I can remember. So many of my childhood memories involve Tom because he was always at my house. Tom was such a great guy. He would do absolutely anything for anyone. While his stature could be intimidating, he was truly a gentle giant. He was one of the friendliest, funniest, and most caring people I have ever known. We all hope to leave a lasting impression with those we love after we move on. Tom did that in spades. The legacy he has left behind is that he made us want to be better people. I know I am certainly better off for having known him. His memory will live on in those who love him. My heart goes out to Nancy, Phil, Lori, Gerry, Lorraine, and all of his family and friends for their unimaginable loss. I will continue to keep them in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace, Tom. I'll see you again one day.

Nancy,
I too had the pleasure of working with Tom at Merck. His love of movies, music, your dogs and of course you made Tom one of those guys that you could tell was a genuine person and he could always make me laugh. He also remered me when you went for kilbasa in the city and brought me in a taste of your kischka. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Thanks for the memories Tom.

Tom was a great friend and neighbor. We were always met with a big smile and corny joke, which we absolutely loved. We were also amazed at how he could recite just about every TV commercial jingle ever made. He inspired us to start our own vegetable garden this year and even supplied us with the tomato and pepper plants. He always wanted to help in any way he could. We will truly miss him and our thoughts and prayers are with Nancy, his family and friends.

This is the message I posted to those Tom worked with here at Merck West Point:
"All,

It is my sad duty to report the demise of one of my colleagues, Tom Barton. Tom was a safety officer who worked for IPS at the West Point site until very recently. His heart was as large as his stature. Attached you will find Tom's obituary. Please remember him, his wife Nancy, and all his family.

Thank you,"

I considered Tom my friend, He will be missed.

I had the pleasure of meeting Tom as a teen. He was always a genuinely kind hearted person , more often than not the first & loudest laugh always came from him. It was impossible to be in a bad mood when Tom was around he just simply wouldn't allow it to happen. I have years of memories that include him and not a single one of them was ever a bad time . I cannot begin to imagine the loss his wife and family are feeling right now my, deepest sympathies, condolences and prayers are with you all.

Tom was such a close friend of mine and one of Bill's best friends. They had a really close connection and his loss has hit us both very hard. He always wanted everyone to laugh and get along...I'll never forget the nicknames he had for both of us and his jokes(the tasteless the better)!!! We will never forget him and his big heart for as long as we live. Love, E Double and B.Ill.

I'm not even sure what to write on here. I'm still having a hard time believing this whole thing. I met Tom back in 1995, and our love of music we instantly clicked. Tom and I stayed friends but really became close around 2004. Tom was such a generous, lovable and damn funny guy. I could fill this entire website with things I would like to share. I am so glad that I met Tom, because I also gained a great friend by knowing Nancy. Going to the Barton's for American idol, to watch a movie, or to play rock band with the wypych clan were some of the most fun times I ever had in my life. I'm going to miss Tom yelling at me to clear out my DVR (he called me a media hoarder) putting me in my place when I talked badly about the Philly sports teams, and taking that extra drive around the block to hear an old Alice in Chains song.
Tom's generosity has to be shared, he truly would give you the shirt of his back. Around 2011 we had a slight disagreement and we weren't really talking (big regret) and I hadn't seen tom in about 6 months. Right after Hurricane Irene my power went out, and I needed a generator for my sump pumps. I went to Home Depot, line around the block. Who's in the front of the line, Tom and Nancy. The were lucky enough to get a generator, I wasn't. Tom being his big ole lovable self, along with Nancy, let me borrow the generator without hesitation, and my basement was saved. That's the kind of guy Tom Barton was. Love you buddy always, and I will miss you more than anyone could ever imagine.

I worked with Tom years ago at Sears and he spent time at my home with mutual friends...even though I was older than all of them, they made me feel welcome, and I imagine that was the man he grew to be. I smile as I write this, and I will always smile when I think of him. Love and prayers to his family....a life cut short too soon.
