Albert was born on Oct. 1, 1916, in Tell City, Ind., to Bertha (Thiery) and Frank Michael Gerteisen. His grandfather, Francis Xaver Gerteisen was born Dec. 3, 1829, west of Freiburg, Germany, in the village of Merdingen.
Albert worked at Republic Aviation during World War II, then was self-employed for the next 35 years in the grocery business. He then became a real estate broker and independent fee appraiser for 10 years. He enjoyed ballroom dancing, card playing, hunting and fishing.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Knights of St. John, Central Turners, Friday Night and Coterie dance clubs.
He was preceded in death by his parents along with six brothers, one daughter, Carolyn Sue Gerteisen (Sister Marianna, S.P.) and one granddaughter, Theresa M. Gerteisen.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Catherine E. (Blankenberger) Gerteisen, four sons and their spouses, Wayne and Mary Jude Gerteisen, Jerry and Nancy Gerteisen, David and Nancy Gerteisen and Ricky and Jane Gerteisen and one brother, Joseph Gerteisen. Fourteen grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive Mr. Gerteisen.
Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at Pierre Funeral Home, continuing at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rev. David Nunning officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 2 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin St., where a memorial service will be held at 4 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or St. Mary of the Woods.
