Allen C. Perkins

Fort Branch, Ind.

Allen C. Perkins, 89, a resident of Fort Branch, died peacefully at River Oaks Health Campus, in Princeton, on October 2, 2017.

He was born on June 26, 1928, in Evansville, to Ora (Keck) Perkins and Major Perkins. He lived in and attended grade school, in Evansville, before moving to Warrenton with his mother, where he went on to attend Haubstadt Public School and Evansville Central High School, from which he graduated as class president in 1946. He attended the University of Evansville, Southern Indiana University and also completed the Indiana Management Institute Series conducted by the School of Business of Indiana University.

He married Bonnie Dunkel at Holy Cross Catholic Church, in 1948, and subsequently moved to Fort Branch in 1953. He worked for International Steel Company, in Evansville, for over 40 years in various positions of management, where he eventually retired as Assistant Secretary-Treasurer. In later years, he started his own business, Perkins Auctioneers and Realtors, and also served as both Gibson County Treasurer and Gibson Country Commissioner. Throughout his life, Perkins was an active member in numerous clubs and organizations, including: the Knights of Columbus, the Knight of St. John, Kiwanis, Eagles, Union Township Democratic Committee, Gibson County Board of Health, Holy Name Society, Holy Cross Church Choir and various other organizations.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie (Dunkel) Perkins; and his half sister, Gloria Meyer.

He is survived by his seven children, Greg, Dennis (Lori) and Becky (Mike) Mayer, of Fort Branch, Ron (Tina), of Barrington, Ill., Kris (Joe) Lutz, of Haubstadt, Tami Perkins (and partner, Lauren Simkin), of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Jeff, of New York, N.Y. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

The family wishes to thank the kind and caring staff of River Oaks Health Campus who attended to Mr. Perkins' care over the past three months. ]A rosary will be said at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at Stodghill Funeral Home, in Fort Branch, followed by visitation hours from 3 to 8 p.m. A second visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 9, 2017, immediately followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with burial at the Holy Cross Cemetery. All friends and family are welcomed to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fort Branch-Johnson Township Public Library or to Holy Cross Catholic School. To Gregg & Fa. Deepest sympathy to all of his family. Allen and I met throught the knights of Columbus when I lived in Haubstadt and he was always a gentleman. May he rest in peace.
