Barbara Whitmore Obituary

Barbara "Bobbie" Jane McQuaid Whitmore

Evansville - Barbara "Bobbie" Jane McQuaid Whitmore, 94, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2020 at her home. She was born April 18, 1925 in Penfield, IL, to the late John Joseph and Julia (Sullivan) McQuaid.

Bobbie was raised in Penfield, Illinois, with loving parents and her 5 siblings. She graduated from University of Illinois Laboratory High School then from Rosary College (now Dominican University) with a Bachelors' of Arts degree in Social Work in 1946. She worked as a social worker prior to marriage and raising her many children. Bobbie loved attending formal and informal gatherings, rearranging her framed photos, and writing/sending out letters and cards to her family and friends.

Bobbie treasured her faith. She loved people, her home, and her neighborhood. She did not let much time go by before she introduced herself to her new neighbors and became a close friend. She loved the beauty of nature in her neighborhood and accomplished a course to become a Master Gardener.

Bobbie is survived by her sons, John Joseph (Barbara) Whitmore, Thomas Michael (Bridget) Whitmore, Paul Vincent Whitmore, James McQuaid (Melanie) Whitmore, David Alan (Mami) Whitmore and Stephen Andrew (Karen) Whitmore; daughter, Barbara Grace (Michael) Huffines; grandchildren, Charles Monroe Whitmore IV, Elsa and Michael Whitmore, Elizabeth and Joseph Whitmore, Emily and Glenn Whitmore, Nicholas Naiser, Kelly Sanders and Brian Huffines; Great Grandchildren, Charles V, Helene, Sterling, Aleena, Tyler, Maddie, Ella, Harper and Merrick.

In addition to her parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Monroe Whitmore II; children, Charles Monroe Whitmore III and Mary Grace Whitmore; and daughter-in-law, Zola Whitmore.

Due to the current pandemic, there will be a private family visitation at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel Wednesday, April 8, 2020 followed by a private funeral service with Fr. Jason Gries officiating.

Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana, Illinois Saturday, April 11, 2020.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Redeemer Adoration Chapel, 918 W. Mill Road, Evansville, IN 47710.

At the time of Mom's passing, she was surrounded by her loving family. Mom was a great mother and a wonderful example on how to live ones' life. Mom was a true role model for unconditional love, perseverance and forgiveness. She will be missed though never forgotten.

The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for the care of their mother.

Condolences may be made online at www.ziemerfuneralhome.com. The funeral will be webcast on Bobbie's Tribute page @ www.ziemerfuneralhome.com Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.

Mrs. Barbara Whitmore was always pleasant with a positive attitude for her family and their friends. She was a wonderful personality to know. We used to visit with her while coming to see Paul who' s been a friend for 40+ years from Memorial HS and Indiana Univ. Her faith and family were important to her. Prayers for Barbara and the Whitmore family.

My deepest sympathies to you all! Your Momma was such a blessing to Mike and I in the way she cared for John Michael. I found a picture of them around 2001. Prayers to you all. Sincerely, Joan Mentzel

Your mother and her sister (Mrs. Provost) ALWAYS had a smile and made one feel as if she/he had made her day just by saying hello. It took me quite a while to tell the two apart. I am sorry to hear of her passing. I am confident she is in the Lord's hands. May your memories of her bring you comfort.

Thinking of you all during this difficult time.
Your mom was truly the most genuine and loving woman Ive ever met. Every time I came to the house, she would always tell me how happy she was to see me and wanted to know how I was doing. Another memory, Irish Soda Bread.
