His painting, Quiet Time, appeared on the Artists of America calendar in 1995 and he completed historical paintings of the Ohio River for the Casino Aztar Evansville riverboat in 1999. He was also admired by and inspired many local Indiana artists, including Evelyn Steinkuhl.

Calvin was my mother's first cousin once removed. Ruth & Calvin werea great team. Ruth would be the straight person setting Calvin up to deliver the gag line. They were fun to visit I have stopped by his grave to leave flowers over the last few years to honor him. I noticed this year that Ruth has also passed. May they rest in loving peace.

Ruth and Family
Jerry and I were sorry to hear of Calvin's passing. You two were the best neighbors we could ever have. I remember our coffee breaks and all the fun we had at our parties. Calvin allowed us to look over his shoulder as he painted. I think Jerry wrote the preface to Calvin's Foggy Morning. . I believe that picture began on that train ride to St.Louis with Calvin, Paul, Jerry and Chris. Did you kow that Beth turned 42 on the day that Calvin passed away.? I would love to be in touch with you via the phone, email or mail. If you are still on Twinckingham Drive please let me know. Our prayers and thoughts are with you at this time. I will always treasure the day I met Calvin. My mother had always talked about him, as we would draw or paint. She was his first cousin, Bernadine Long and talked about growing up with Calvin. I miss her & will miss him just as much. may God's blessings be with you all.

I am saddened by the news of Calvin's death. He was one of the first friends I made when I moved to Evansville and started working at the Evansville Courier and Press in 1972 - and he remained a favorite of mine ever since. I also remember great times together with Ruth and Calvin enjoying home made pizza! I am out of town so will not be able to attend the visitation, but please know my thoughts and prayers are with you. Susan Riddle King

Ruth, Becky & I are so sad to hear about Calvin. He made me laugh so many times... I will never forget his sly sense of humor. I had been thinking of Calvin a lot lately and was planning to call him. His artwork was great, but his personality was even better. I have lost another cousin, but memories of him will live on with me!

I worked with Calvin for many years at the Evansville Courier and Press. He was one of my favorite people and could always be counted on for a funny or witty remark. He had a great outlook on life and always smiled when he spoke about his family. He will be missed.

Cal... What a guy!!!
He was my best friend in the art department at the EPC and helped me in so many, many ways as I started my position as the Graphics Editor of the Sunday Courier and Press. He made my job so much easier. I will never forget the generosity of his time, knowledge and the Herculean efforts he made to help guide me with my projects.
His personality permeated everything he touched. His artwork was inspiring. He was a kind, gentle and loving person... he will be missed.

Sadly I was told of Calvin's passing. I now live near Tampa, but once worked at The Evansville Sunday Courier and Press as a photographer 1970-1986. Calvin was one of the neatest guys I knew there. Seems every day I just had to slip away from my darkroom and pay him a visit to hear his latest jokes and he would show me some of his on going outstanding art works. What great guy to have known. I do not know Mr. Maglinger, other than hearing his name associated with the c/p. I couldn't draw flies so his ability is amazing to me. He came a long way from Owensboro, a long long way. this obit. painted a picture of him and I envy his life and accomplishments as should all. Regrets to his family, really, to us all.
