Cecile (Gully) Effinger, age 88, of Wadesville, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Solarbron Terrace. She was born in Mulhouse, France on April 7, 1928 to Edouard and Mary Magdeline (Wassmer) Gully. Cecile came to the United States in 1947 to marry the love of her life, Joseph H. Effinger on November 15, 1947.
Her life was filled with love for their seven children. They include: Gilbert (Bonnie), Dan (Liz), Margie (Jim) Tomes, Patty (Bill) Scruggs, Joe (Cindy), Mark (Angel) and Tom, who died in 1985. Cecile is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, plus step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, as well as a daughter-in-law, Jeannie Roales; a sister, Germaine Magail and a brother, Robert in Mulhouse, France.
In addition to her parents and son Tom, Mrs. Effinger was preceded in death by brothers, Alphonse Roth and Rene Gully and two sisters, Lucy and Louise Gully.
Cecile was a member of St. Wendel Catholic Church, St. Wendel Ladies' Club and St. Ann's Auxiliary of the St. Wendel Knights of St. John.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 13, 2016 at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Wendel Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home and from 10:00 A.M. until service time on Friday at St. Wendel Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joe and Cecile Effinger Endowment at St. Wendel Catholic Church, 10542 W. Boonville – New Harmony Road, Evansville, IN 47720.
The Effinger family would like to extend a special thank you to Solarbron, Heritage Hospice and both of their staffs for the compassionate and loving care given to Cecile.
