Charles Estel Wiley

Charles Estel Wiley died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2020, from complications related to COVID-19.

He was born Dec. 24, 1937, in Catlettsburg, Ky. Under the pseudonyms "Chuck Wiley," "Johnny K. Wiley," and "Big John K," he was an active part of the 1950s rock and roll scene. Locally, he remained a well-known rockabilly musician and songwriter who played live gigs for over 30 years, including at Pete's Supper Club, Casino Aztar, and the Executive Inns in Vincennes, Evansville, and Owensboro. As a musician, some of his most famous live collaborations include Ray Charles in 1957 and Jimi Hendrix in 1971.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. C.E. and Alvie Wiley, his wife of 30 years, Janice Wiley, and two sons, Patrick Wiley and Terry Wiley.

Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Willingham of Henderson and Tiffany Lashbrooke of Evansville; three sons, Tim Wiley of Atlanta, Tracey Wiley of Evansville, and Todd of Evansville; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services and visitation are private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Humane Society.
