Gary Summers Obituary

Gary Eugene "Jake" Summers

Evansville, Ind. - Gary Eugene "Jake" Summers, 84, of Evansville, Indiana passed away on June 21, 2020, at home surrounded by his family.

Jake was born November 15, 1935 in Terra Haute, Indiana to the late Darrell Eugene Summers and Mary Agnes McBride. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores "Runt" Summers; both parents; sister, Sandra Ann Cooper of Bedford, IN; brother, Fred Summers of Lone Rock, WI; son, Gary Eugene Summers II of Champaign, IL; granddaughter, Summer Joye Truax of Champaign, IL; nephews, Larry Joseph Farber and James Edward Farber of Evansville, IN; and stepsons, Jack Cooper, Sam Cooper, Steven Cooper and Duke Cooper all of Evansville, IN.

He is survived by his daughters, Jacquelyn O'Neal, Laura (Sam) Williams and Juanita (Jim) Truax of Champaign, IL; son, Gary A. Summers of Evansville, IN; 10 Grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; close nephew, Timothy Farber and nephews, Rod Farber and Mike Farber; and by his stepdaughter, Cindy (Joe) Miley and family.

Jake closely identified with his Native American roots and loved being in nature whether it was hunting, fishing or just being in the woods. He was a plumber by trade but had acquired an array of knowledge, and was often called upon by friends and family to problem solve a variety of issues. Jake was an avid reader of science fiction and daily read "the Book," his Bible. He loved to play the harmonica and enjoyed many types of music. He always had a good story or joke to tell with a witty sense of humor. He was gracious, kind, generous and always a gentleman. His passing will leave a void in our lives that can never be filled. We love you and we'll see you further on up the road. Donadagohvi
