Iris Whitman Obituary

Iris Ann (Bates) Whitman, 81, of Evansville, passed away Monday, October 11, 2010 at Heritage Center.

She graduated from Memorial High School in 1947 and from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1950, retiring after 30 years in a variety of nursing fields. Iris was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and enjoyed sports of all kinds especially golfing.

Iris was preceded in death by her husband Harold Whitman and son Kevin Whitman.

She is survived by son Steve Whitman and his wife Becky of Lexington, KY; daughters Karen Bunnell and her husband Jeff of Avon, IN and Sarah Gahagen and her husband Rick of Evansville; grandchildren Jessica Whitman, Matt Whitman and his wife Jamie, Adam Bunnell, Eric Bunnell, Ryan Bunnell, Rachel Gahagen, Maggie Gahagen and Marcus Gahagen; sister Ila Ohl and her husband Paul of Evansville; cousins Alan Campbell and Judy Campbell and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday October 13, 2010 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm with a Memorial service at 7:30 pm at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, 626 N. First Ave., Evansville, IN 47710. Visitation will continue Thursday from 10:00 - 10:30 am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 am Thursday October 14, 2010 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Ferguson officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Holy Redeemer Building Fund, 918 W Mill Rd., Evansville, IN 47710.

The family would like to thank the Harbor Unit at Heritage Center for their kind and compassionate care of Mom.
