Katherine L. "Katie" (Judd) Eakins, 78, of Milford, Ohio formerly of Evansville passed away at 7:12 am, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Arbors of Milford in Ohio.

Katie was born April 24, 1938 in Evansville the daughter of the late Clifford Judd and Emalyn (Morton) Porter. She was a 1956 graduate of Bosse High School and attended Evansville College. In 1962, she married Charles E. Eakins Sr. and they were married 44 years before divorcing in 2006. Katie lived her life devoted to her family as a loving wife and mother. Among those many roles, she served as a troop leader for the Boy Scouts, an active member of the PTA when her children were young and traveled to Europe with America's Youth in Concert as a chaperone in 1975 - 1978. She continued that active role with her grandchildren.

Katie was a stay at home mom until her children began school and then she worked as a teaching assistant for EVSC for 35 years. She spent most of that time at Tekoppel Elementary teaching Kindergarten. She enjoyed her students and greatly appreciated the truth and beauty that small children share.

While in Evansville Katie was a long time member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ until moving to Cincinnati in 2011 where she became a member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection.

She is survived by daughter, Lee Ann Barkman (Chad) of Cincinnati, OH; sons, Brent Eakins of Evansville and Joshua Eakins of Newburgh, IN; grandchildren, Jessica Stamm, Lucy and Kimber Barkman and great-grandchildren, Leah and Roland Eakins; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Thomas Porter; son, Charles Eakins Jr.; former husband and father of her children, Charles E. Eakins Sr. and sisters, Virginia Glasscock and Marianna Joest.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Friday, January 20, 2017 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel-A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville with Reverend Mark Sirnic officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 3 pm until 6 pm, Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
