Gregory Spicer Obituary
Gregory Mark Spicer, age 69, passed away at OSU Ross Medical Center on January 8, 2025. He was born in Lima, Ohio, in 1955, to the late Ralph Edward Spicer and Germaine Helen Schumaker. Gregory was a devout Catholic, known for his zest for life and taste for the finer things, though he was never afraid to get his hands dirty. A dedicated entrepreneur, Gregory owned and operated several businesses over the years, including his own plumbing company. Beyond his business ventures, he built multiple houses, learning centers, and retirement resorts,
leaving a lasting mark on communities across Ohio. Above all, his greatest pride and joy were his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was their biggest supporter, beaming with pride at all their accomplishments and never missing an opportunity to attend their events-whether it was a football game, a truck pull, or a softball game. Food was his love language, and he took great joy in feeding others. A master of the smoker, Gregory was known for his exceptional skill in smoking meat to perfection. If you were at his home around dinner, you wouldn't leave hungry! He also had a passion for gardening, generously sharing his knowledge and expertise with anyone who sought his advice. His love extended to animals, particularly his beloved dogs, Samson and Sadie.
Gregory is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Germaine; his brothers, Michael and Christopher Spicer; his sisters, Janice Koontz, Theresa McGilton, and Lisa (Keith) Beck; and his son, Gregory John Spicer.
He leaves behind his significant other of 28 years, Debra Large; his sons, Rick (Lora) Dirmeyer and Joseph (Denise) Spicer; his daughters, Annette (Robert) Saveski, Michelle "Shelly" Spicer, and Monica (Justin) Bailey; his stepdaughters, Amy Jo (Gary) Phillips and Michelle Lynn (Mike) Hoch; his 22 grandchildren; and his 10 great- grandchildren. His brothers, John (Karen) Spicer, Gordon "Al" (Jerlyn) Spicer, and Andy (Diana) Spicer; his sisters, Jeanann Watkins, Germaine (Mark) Woten, Beth (Tim) Ayer, and Diana Spicer;
