James Spencer Obituary
James Edward Spencer of Marion, Ohio, went home to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on August 22, 2025, at 4 a.m., surrounded by the love and comfort of his family at the age of 94.
He was born on July 23, 1931, in Paintsville, Kentucky, to his late parents, Frank Spencer and Lou Alice (Louly) Freeman. He would meet the love of his life, Mary Ellen Hurd, who he would marry in Paintsville, Kentucky, on January 3, 1953, and share 70 years of marriage.
James was a man of faith. He loved the fellowship of his church family as a member and Deacon of the White Oaks Road Free Will Baptist Church. He loved going to church conferences, where he represented the church as a delegate and deacon, he rarely missed a quarterly conference. He never knew a stranger; he could talk to anyone.
God gave him the gift of strength. He worked so hard his whole life. Always taking care of his family. He loved to fish, hunt, and work with his honeybees. His gentle nature made him a great beekeeper. He loved sharing his knowledge and passion for them with everyone.
More than anything he loved his family and was devoted husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, great-great grandpa, brother, and friend to many. James would most want to be remembered for his faith in his Savior Jesus Christ and is now whole again in Heaven.
James is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and their wives, Gene (Lucy) and Bobby (Lula Mae "Bub").
He leaves behind a son, Charles Edwin (Karen) Spencer; daughters, Pamela Kay Spencer and Susan Linette (Bobby) Spencer-Conley, grandchildren, Charity (Scott) Rivers, Shawn (Amanda) Spencer, Kristin (Matt) Murray, Dustin, and Jakob (Shelby) Conley; 14 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
