Mark West Obituary

Mark Edwin West passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 25, 2025. He was 77. He was born on June 28, 1948 in Bucyrus, Ohio to the late Chester J. and Wanda J. (Beck) West. After graduating from Colonel Crawford High School, Mark went on to serve his country in Vietnam with the United States Army. On April 5, 1996 he married the love of his life, Judy Beitzel, in Bucyrus, Ohio. Together they shared 29 wonderful years of love, laughter, and memories. Mark was a dedicated and hardworking man whose career spanned several decades. He began his professional journey at GE, where he worked from 1968 to 1988, followed by ten years with Purex until 1998. He then continued his career with Whirlpool for another decade before joining Marion City Schools, where he served as a custodian at Harrison and Taft Elementary Schools for 11 years. During his time there, Mark made many good friends among his coworkers and left a lasting impression on the students whose lives he touched each day. He was a beloved member of the Blooming Grove Seventh Day Adventist Church, where his faith shone through in every part of his life. He had a quick wit, a gift for one-liners, and a sense of humor that could lift anyone's spirits. Mark never went a day without several strong, fresh cups of coffee - something he held almost as sacred as his faith and his family. In his spare time, Mark enjoyed camping with his family and made numerous friends along the way. He was a kind, humble man who led by example, always ready with wisdom, encouragement, and a listening ear. To those who knew him, Mark's life philosophy was simple but powerful: "Faith, family, and coffee" - in that order. Mark is survived by his loving wife Judy West, children Kellie (James) Roush, Jason (Connie) West, Michelle Alexander, and Nathanial Dehring, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren (with three more on the way), siblings Larry (Cindy) West, Elsie (Thomas) Smith, and Jack (Daisy) West, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. The West family will receive guests on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 11 am to noon in the Snyder Funeral Homes, Richardson Davis Chapel. A funeral service celebrating Mark's life will begin immediately after. He will then be laid to rest on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 9:45 am in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. For those wishing to attend the graveside service, please arrive and be lined up at the cemetery no later than 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Blooming Grove Seventh Day Adventist Church. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Woodside Village Care Center and Southern Care Hospice for their exceptional care of Mark in his last days. Snyder Funeral Homes is honored to serve Mark's family and encourage you to share a fond memory or message of condolence on his obituary page at www.SnyderFuneralHomes.com.
