Vinnie Vance Obituary
Vinnie "LaVon" Vance, age 93, formerly of Marion, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Vancrest of Upper Sandusky following an extended illness.
On December 8, 1931, LaVon was born in Marion, Ohio, one of five children of the late Harold Edward Scheitler Sr. and Letitia B. (Hunt) Scheitler. She was a proud Marion native who lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to her family and work.
For over 40 years, LaVon worked for BF Goodrich in Green Camp and later retired from Parker Hannifin. During her years there, she was an active member of their Scooter Riding Club, a lively group of coworkers who shared nearly 15 years of fun and friendship riding their Honda scooters together. After retiring, LaVon found another calling at Ohio Heartland Head Start, where she worked as head cook at the Bellefontaine Avenue location. She took pride in preparing breakfast and lunch from scratch for the children and staff, spoiling her students however she could for another decade before retiring once more.
LaVon's passions extended well beyond her work. She was an avid crocheter, crafting beautiful gifts for family and friends, and she loved playing euchre and square dancing with her friends. Her greatest joy, however, came from time spent with her family. She was an extraordinary cook who could turn any meal into a feast, always ensuring no one ever left her home hungry. Every dish she made was prepared from scratch-and with love. She especially looked forward to hosting her family for holidays and special occasions, creating memories filled with warmth and laughter.
On February 14, 1978, LaVon married the love of her life, William "Bill" Vance. Together they shared 16 wonderful years of marriage and countless "three-peck kisses" before his passing on July 15, 1994. Their love and companionship remain a treasured memory for all who knew them.
Above all, LaVon will be remembered for her caring spirit, her kindness, and her ability to make everyone feel like the most special person in the world. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who will forever carry her love in their hearts.
She was truly one of a kind-loving, generous, and full of life.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Pamela Sexton; five grandchildren: Billy (Miranda) Mayberry, Jason (Aleesha) Norris, Stacey Norris, Richey (Nickia) Eaches, and Joshua (Breanna) Brown; 14 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her parents and 2nd husband Bill, LaVon was preceded in death by her son, Donald Norris; grandson, Pernell "Jake" Brown; son-in-law, Steve Sexton; 1st husband, Gerald "Jerry" Norris; four brothers: Harold Jr., Gary, Ronald, and Donald Scheitler; and by her loving partner, Paul E. Bowman.
Services honoring LaVon's life will be held at 10 am on Monday, November 3, 2025, in Prospect Cemetery, with Celebrant Alycia Orcena officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio Headstart Program, P.O. Box 779, Marion, OH 43301.
On behalf of her family, they would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank you" to the staff at Vancrest of Upper Sandusky for their tender care of LaVon during her many years there.
