Geraldine Funk Obituary

DEFIANCE - Geraldine M. Funk passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Glenn Park of Defiance. Geraldine was born in Defiance, Ohio, on April 20, 1924, to J.I. and Blanche (Moore) Gearhart. She celebrated her 100th birthday earlier this year, while surrounded by family. On April 8, 1944, Geraldine married her spouse of 73 years, Neal Funk.

Geraldine was known for her loving and kind nature. Upon graduating from Defiance High School in 1942, Geraldine shared that her hopes for the future were "to own my own dress shop and to get married." During her lifetime, Geraldine enjoyed being a homemaker. She also belonged to a local Tripoley club and attended many social dances. She was fond of reading, traveling, playing golf and completing brain teasers. Geraldine was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Defiance, Ohio.

Geraldine is survived by her two children, Larry (Linda) Funk of Orange Beach, AL and Ricki (Douglas) Mayes of Lakewood, Colorado. Geraldine will also be missed by her four granddaughters and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.I. and Blanche (Moore) Gearhart, as well as her three brothers - James Gearhart, Leonard Gearhart and Carson Gearhart.

Geraldine is to be buried at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Defiance. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.

The family asks that donations be made to Elara Caring Hospice Care or Glenn Park of Defiance Senior Living Community in lieu of flowers. Online condolences can be given at www.Schafferfh.com.
