JoAnne Funchion

NAPOLEON - JoAnne Funchion, 93 years young, passed away at CHP Hospice in Defiance on June 21, 2022.

She was born on April 5, 1929, to Cassius and Inez (Cameron) Schlosser. On April 15, 1950, she married William Funchion Jr. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a special companion, Jim Speiser. She was a 1947 graduate of Napoleon High School.

JoAnne was also preceded in death by five brothers: Clifford, Kenneth, Harold "Jack", Owen and John; and two sisters, Marjorie Young and Shirley Sickmiller.

She was a special person and a cherished wife, mom, grandma, great grandma and aunt. She lived life to the fullest.

She worked several years at Mitchell's greenhouse as a designer, and eventually purchased Mitchell's and owned and ran the business for 12 years. Upon retirement she babysat for family. Later she worked at Napoleon VFW post and was active with the ladies auxiliary. During this time, she was in charge of cooking and catering numerous banquets: weddings, funerals, organizations and yearly team meals for the Napoleon football team. She was known by the team as Grandma Jo, and the players looked forward to her mashed potatoes and noodles. She worked at the VFW until she turned 91. For over 50 years she hosted the family Christmas dinners at her home, and everyone enjoyed her homemade noodles and macaroni salad.

JoAnne is survived by a daughter, Peg Funchion, sons, Terry (Lisa) and Tim (Judy); five grandchildren, Ryan (Hannah) Funchion, Katelyn (Tory) Rasey, Jenna (Drew) Bathiany, Lauren Funchion-Grimes (Lance) and Logan Funchion; and 9 great-grandchildren: Jack, Evie, and Leo Funchion, Quinn, Nora and Theo Rasey, Brynleigh and Remi Bathiany, and Bennett Funchion.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home, Napoleon. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Napoleon.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 3-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at the funeral home.
