Rev. LH MATHIS

1945 - 2024

The Rev. LH Mathis, age 78, of Tuckasegee, passed away after an extended period of declining health, on Saturday Jan. 13, 2024. He was born on April 22, 1945, in Jackson County, to the late Anzel and Mary (Melton) Mathis.
LH was devoted to the Lord and traveled around the world preaching the gospel to all he encountered. He started in the churches in Little Canada and eventually was preaching in South America and the Philippines.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed time spent outdoors.
LH is survived by his loving daughter, Kristi Norris (Charlie), grandson, Evan Norris; siblings, Herman Mathis of Tuckasegee and Lois Harris of Castlerock, WA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eleven siblings Oma Lee Nicholson, of Pickens, Dixie Norris, of Sylva, Jamie Mathis, of Sylva, Junior Mathis, of Toledo, Wash., Jessie Cochran, of Sylva, Betty Lee Burrell, of Sylva, JB Mathis, of Tuckasegee, Willis Mathis, of Longview, Wash., Willie Oliver Mathis, and Louella Mathis.
The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday at Appalachian Funeral Services followed by a funeral. The Rev. Stanley Adcock officiated. Interment followed at Sols Creek Cemetery in Tuckasegee.
Pallbearers included James Middleton, Robby Middleton, Braydon Middleton, Dusty Middleton, Terry McCall, and Billy Gunter.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Appalachian Funeral Services, Sylva.
