Angelo Rimini Obituary

RIMINI Angelo James Rimini, age 91, of Bridgeport, was born on September 22, 1911, in Cassandra, Pa., to Anthony and Pauline Rimini. He died on Friday, July 11, 2003, after an extended illness at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. While in Pennsylvania, he met his wife of 63 years, Margaret "Peck" Thrower, and worked as a foreman in the coal mines. He and Peck moved to Bridgeport during World War II to work at Bullards Co. In 1944 he created his own popcorn truck in the days before ice cream trucks. His entrepreneur attitude helped him build his business on Grand Street of 50 years, "Angelo€s Pear Tree Shop." Known and remembered mostly for his famous lemon ice, his acts of kindness and generosity to those around him will also be remembered. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peck; and by his brothers and sisters: Michael Rimini, Joseph Rimini, Anthony Rimini, Charles Rimini, Angeline Donoso and Theresa Ference. He is survived by two daughters and their families, Dolores Jackson and Harold Kirchoff of Reno, Nev., and Treva and Cliff LaRose of Monroe. Other survivors include a special sister-in-law, Lena Placzek of Denver, Pa.; and grandchildren, Robert and Sherry Root of Reno, Ronald and Sue Root of Bremerton, Wash., Cliff LaRose Jr. of Monroe, and Jan and Gary Ewing of Gainesville, Ga. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at 11 a.m. directly at the Salem Lutheran Church, Bridgeport. Burial will be in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may call on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport. I remember Angelo, when My first child was born, Christopher. My father-in-law Joseph, knew your parents well. He used to walk down to the store with my son, and Angelo always gave him candy. He always had a smile on him.(Ruthie passed in March, and Joseph moved in with us.) May you all be filled with cherished memories in your hearts, and peace in your minds. God Bless !!!!

Memories of your father's kindness and friendship to Charlie and me will always be remembered. Charlie always enjoyed talking to him whether it was in the store, from his police motorcycle, or at one of your parties. How grand he looked walking you down the aisle on 10/18/63 ! Love, Vera (& Ed)
