Arlene Ericson Obituary

Arlene Emma Ericson
Arlene Emma Ericson, born October 15, 1946, passed away in peace and comfort, with her family by her side, on October 21st, 2023, after a year and half battle with cancer. She grew up in Trumbull, CT, and landed her very first job at The Bridgeport YMCA, where she was the bookkeeper for 17 years. This began her long and storied career with The YMCA, where she moved on to work at Camp Hi Rock in MA and then Camp Speers in PA with the Equestrian program. With her love and passion for horses as a child, this dream job allowed her to continue working with them throughout the rest of her life. She also met her beloved husband, Tom, through the YMCA, where he was the Executive Director of both camps. Arlene and Tom were passionate about The YMCA, the camp life and what it stood for. In Tom's retirement, they made the permanent move to PA. Arlene then began working for C&S Stables, where she had many responsibilities, including teaching riding and conducting trail rides. She particularly loved teaching kids with special needs on one of her favorite horses, Louie. She truly loved not only horses, but all animals, which extended to her very own vast ensemble at home. Arlene was also highly skilled with Crocheting, Needlepoint and Photography; winning several ribbons at the annual 4 H Fairs for her amazing work. She was incredibly giving and compassionate and loved her family with all her heart. Her legacy is one of kindness to all people and animals alike.
Arlene is preceded in death by her husband, Tom Q. Moore; and is survived by her sister, Elizabeth A. Calaway, her brother, Alan E. Ericson and his wife Linda, nieces, Alicia P. Calaway, Dana L. Emmanouilidis and her husband Dimitrios, Shelley M. Sousa and her husband Virgil, nephew, Christopher E. Ericson and great-nephews, Dimitrios P. Emmanouilidis and Dylan E. Emmanouilidis. She is also survived by loving cousins and Tom's extended family.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at C&S Stables, 2309 Hancock Highway, Equinunk, PA 18417.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd., Trumbull, CT. Inurnment to follow in Tabor Cemetery, 36 Tabor Drive, Branford, CT 06405. Friends may pay their respects on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences, and know that my thoughts are with the family during this time of mourning. May the love and support of those around you provide comfort and peace as we remember and celebrate Arlene´s extraordinary life.

I first had the privilege of meeting Arlene at Camp Hi-Rock, volunteering at Bear Rock when I was just a teenager. Over the subsequent 54 years, our paths intertwined continually as we shared stories about horses and our connection to Hi-Rock grew ever stronger.

Arlene was the epitome of kindness and selflessness, always ready to lend a helping hand and brighten someone´s day. Her unwavering support and warmth were a constant presence at the camp, making her an integral part of the community and leaving a lasting legacy of generosity and love. Arlene's spirit was truly one of a kind, and she will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Dear Betty, Alan, and Family,

We were saddened to hear about the passing of Arlene. Having known Arlene for more than 60 years is full of beautiful memories; she was a very special person. I remember when she started working at the YMCA, she developed a special interest in the Camping Service Department. Arlene would drive to Camp Hi-Rock every week-end to help out wherever she was needed. I can't think of anybody I know who displayed more love and compassion for people than Arlene. She was always there to help someone in need. Arlene's act of kindness was practiced on a daily basis and many of us were the recipients. I always admired her commitment and love for her family and the devotion she had for her church. I will remember her smile and warm heart for people. You will be missed!
