Arthur Yann Obituary

Yann, Arthur
Arthur Andrew Yann III, 48, beloved husband of Amy Boughton Yann, passed away suddenly on June 13, 2013 in New York City. The son of Michele Gittens Yann and the late Arthur A. Yann, Jr., he was born in Pittsburgh on August 13, 1964 and lived in Fairfield, CT since 1999. Arthur will live on in daughter Sofia Claire, aged 3, who was and ever shall be his love and light.
Arthur grew up in Edgewood, a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA where he graduated from Edgewood High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Journalism in 1986 from Ohio University, where he was a proud Beta Theta Pi brother. An award-winning, accredited public relations professional, Arthur started his career at Nichol and Company, where he was a partner until 2003. After several years at CKPR and Health Star Public Relations as a Senior Vice President, in 2008 he became Vice President for Public Relations at the Public Relations Society of America, a role which has been called "one of the toughest jobs" in the industry. He was a devoted mentor, colleague and friend to many in the field.
Art loved to laugh and had a wicked sense of humor. He was passionate about many things: The Rolling Stones, fine single malt scotch, the beach, golf, the Steelers, and the Penguins. Baseball was a tougher choice; he loved the Pirates but also supported the Yankees (though if the two faced off in the Series, he would have to come out on the side of the Pirates). He loved to travel, both to old favorites like Nantucket (where he and Amy were married) and to new and exotic locales.
To those fortunate enough to have known him, Art was a husband, daddy, son, brother, friend, mentor, rap aficionado, golfer, and at his core, a man of wealth and taste. His wealth lay in those he held most dear. Above all else, Arthur cherished his family. In addition to Amy, Sofia, and his mother, Michele, Arthur is survived by his sisters Vicki (Rebecca) and Kelly (Zach). He was like a son to his father-in-law Edgar Boughton, and a brother to his sisters-in-law Laura (Michael), Deborah (TBD), and Elizabeth (Nick). He delighted his nephews Owen and Andrew, and was adored by his goddaughter, Katie. He had an extended family of friends in Pittsburgh, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut as well as his brothers in Kai.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 21 (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH) at 10:30 am at St. Thomas Aquinas, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield CT 06824. Burial will be private. Friends and family may call on Thursday, June 20 from 4 to 8 pm at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT 06460. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Arthur's honor to Sofia's college fund. College America fbo Sofia Yann, American Funds Service Company, PO BOX 2713, Norfolk, VA 23501-2713. To the Yann Family, I so sorry for your loss with the sudden passing of Art. I was his high school librarian and will remember him always as a smart, engaging and funny person. I have always thought of him with fondness and know what a terrible loss this is for his sisters, his wife and daughter. We are all better for having known Art.

I'm still so shocked and saddened by the loss of Art. I recently have been catching up with him on FB, and it's just so hard to believe. My deepest sympathies to the family mostly, and all his many friends. RIP, my friend!
