Athan (Tom) Metsopoulos age 87 of Stratford, beloved husband of 34 years to the late Madeline McKeever Metsopoulos, died peacefully on Friday March 30, 2018. Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late John and Diane Gekas Metsopoulos. A resident of Stratford for the past 6 years, he was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the Navy. A retired US Postal Service Employee, he had worked as a mailman for over 21 years. An avid sports fan who also played baseball, softball, bowling and especially basketball where he was inducted into the Holy Trinity Sports Hall of Fame. He was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, as well as a member of the A.H.E.P.A. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor which he used to spread joy to everyone he met.
Survivors include his sons George Metsopoulos of Florida, Athan (A.J.) Metsopoulos II of Stratford, his sweet heart Katlin, a brother Christos Metsopoulos of Bridgeport, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Madeline and his daughter Jacqueline.
The Rite of Burial will be celebrated on Monday April 9, 2018 at 11am in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Avenue, Bridgeport with Fr. Georgios Livaditis Presbyter officiating followed by interment in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Calling hours will be held Monday morning from 8:30am until time of services in the church.
