Barbara Petersen, 85, longtime resident of Fairfield, passed away on December 8, 2025. She was the loving wife of Tom Petersen. She was born on November 7, 1940, in Glen Cove, NY, to the late Benjamin and Genevieve Karpinski Stutz.
Barbara met her husband, Tom, while working at the Naval Training Devices Center on Long Island. They built a life based on travel, adventure, but most importantly, love. For over 25 years, she worked as the business administrator for the Norwalk Medical Group. In their free time, Tom and Barbara traveled the world. They sailed the east coast from Canada to Key West, living on their boat for months at a time. Barbara lived to experience the world and new cultures. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family and close friends.
In addition to her husband, Tom, she is survived by her son, Mark, and daughter, Laura (Phil) Gavey. She was the proud grandmother to: Kevin, Connor, Ryan, Meaghan, and Mika. She adored her great-grandchildren, Westley, Owen, and Ava Grace. She also leaves her sister, Patricia Blumlein.
Friends and family may visit on Monday, December 15, from 4-6PM at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 16, at 10AM at St. Pius X Parish, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield. Entombment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ASPCA.
