Catherine Devaney Wallace, a long time resident of Bridgeport and Fairfield, and beloved wife of the late Robert W. Wallace, passed away in Dunnellon, Florida on Friday April 12, 2013, at the age of 87. She is remembered for her quiet loveliness, beautiful singing voice, and her kindness and generosity to family and friends. Born in Bridgeport to Agnes and Frank Devaney, she graduated from St. Patrick School and Bassick High School. Catherine briefly attended Rhode Island College where she was recruited during World War II to work for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), a precursor to the C.I.A. in Washington D.C. She married her childhood sweetheart Robert Wallace in June 1946, after he returned from duty in the Pacific, where he served on USS Rocky Mount. His devotion to her was lifelong and complete. They were married for 54 years until his death in April, 2000. After raising her family she worked at the D. M. Read Department Store and as a secretary in the Health Laboratory of the City of Bridgeport. She was a long time parishioner of St. Theresa Parish in Trumbull and St. Andrew Parish in Bridgeport. She is survived by her seven children and their spouses, Kevin Wallace and his wife Colleen of Woodbridge; Barry Wallace and his wife Charlene of Fairfield; Brian Wallace and his wife, Janice of Fairfield; Mary Ellen Wallace Sasso and her husband John, of Amherst, Ohio; Tim Wallace and his wife Kathy of Dunnellon, Florida; Kathleen Wallace of Dunnellon, Florida; and William Wallace and his wife Molly of Jacksonville, Alabama; by nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren; many loving nephews and nieces; and by her older sisters, Agnes Lowrey, and Dolores Montville Fitzsimmons of Florida. Her younger brother, John F. Devaney, predeceased her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday April 17, 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fairfield. Internment will follow immediately at St. Thomas Cemetery in Fairfield. Contributions in her name can be sent to Broadhurst Manor in Fairfield.
