Charles Reed Obituary

REED Charles B. Reed, Sr., age 76, died Monday, April 27, 2009 at his home in New Providence. He was born in Ellenville, N.Y. and grew up in Fairfield and had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to New Providence in 2001. Mr. Reed attended Union College. Prior to his retirement in 1989, he was a Component Engineer for T.R.W., Inc., in Fairfield for 28 years. After his retirement, he was a contractor for the Star Ledger for about 13 years. He was an active member of the Scotch Plains Baptist Church. Mr. Reed loved baseball and the N.Y. Yankees. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry B. Reed. Mr. Reed is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patricia McDonough Reed; his son, Charles "Chuck" B. Reed, Jr. and his wife, Corrine of Rome City, Ind.; his daughter, Alycia Alongi and her husband, Gaetano of South Elgin, Ill.: his sisters, Florence Smith, Phylis Antonini, Hazel Towne and Clara Bishop; and his grandchildren, Genesis, Ashton and Gabriel Reed. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 1, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Scotch Plains Baptist Church. Cremation is private. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in Higgins Funeral Home, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, N.J. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Providence Care and Concern Foundation, P.O.
