Dylan Hockley Obituary

Hockley, Dylan C.
Dylan Christopher Jack Hockley, beloved and cherished son of Ian Thomas and Nicole Marie (Moretti) of Sandy Hook, died tragically on December 14, 2012 with his friends, classmates and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Dylan was born in Winchester, England on March 8, 2006. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother Jake Alexander Hockley of Sandy Hook; Maternal Grandparents, Henry and Theresa (Gobidas) Moretti of Cranston, Rhode Island; Paternal Grandparents, Thomas and Ivy (Dawn) Hockley of Eastrea, England; uncles Kevin Hockley of Peterborough, England and Gary Hockley of Chicago, Illinois. A public Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the Walnut Hill Community Church, 156 Walnut Hill Rd., Bethel. The Honan Funeral home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, is in care of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dylan Hockley Memorial Fund, 34 Charter Ridge Road, Sandy Hook, CT, 06482.

I came across this young angel while researching a school project. It was on a tragedy and this story came right to mind. Seeing how full of life Dylan was really brought tears to my eyes. Dylan's name always stood out so I went researching to find out why. He reminds me of my brother, who is around the same age. I hope my project can begin to capture how horrible this was and rest in peace Dylan.

Every year we remember Dylan and pray for his family as we decorate our Christmas tree. The tag (we know his name is misspelled) is from a vigil that took place the next evening following the tragedy. Each of us were given a slip of paper with a name of someone who died, this is what I was given, the name of the wonderful, sweet Dylan Hockley. I don’t know if his family reads these tributes all these years later, but if they do, please know that our family keeps you in our prayers.

Dear Nicole, I know I am a stranger to you but we have something in common. I also am the mother of a murder victim.
First let me offer my condolences to you and your entire family.
I want to assure you that you will never forget Dylan. You will think of him every day. It's been 14 years since I lost my son and there is not a day that goes by that i do not think of him. You can't forget someone you think of every day.
You are and always will be his mother. As will Daddy.
My heart goes out to you and your family.
I hope this doesn't seem too strange but knowing what it's like to go through this, sometimes we feel like we have to reach out.

I'm very sorry for Dylans loss. He seemed like a wonderful kid. lt would be great if Newtown hosted a tribute concert to commemorate all those lost in Dec. 2012, and maybe a local singer covers Sarah MacLachlan's I Will Remember You.

That lovely song came to mind, and it is why I'm motivated to write something for him. It should help any of the affected families cope with their grief and being able to move forward.

I am Soo sorry that little boy had to lose his life he looked like he was a great kid with a great heart it is so mean and heartbreaking to know that your little boy wont be home for Thanksgiving or to have him in your arms holding kissing him goodnight telling that you love him and packing his lunch for school i feel bad for this little boy's family to see and know that a mother's son was killed and to know that she wont ever get to see or hold her baby boy it truly is a heartbreaking to know that sweet adorable little boy lost his life and i hope that his family tresures the time they have had with their baby boy My thoughts and feelings and prayers go out to this little boy's family and friends And if you guys need support i am here for you mu heart go's out to all the little boys and girls families that have lost their babies
