Monsignor Karl will be missed greatly. He was my Pastor at Holy Family School from 1980-1989. I met with him after my first son was born in 2006 and he blessed my baby for me. He looked exactly as I had remembered, except he had white hair. He also still smelled of the same cologne he wore back in the 80's. I will never forget him. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family.

Monsignor Karl was such a kind, warm person. He took notice of the little things that mattered to people. He even warmed the water for our daughter's Baptism so she wouldn't cry. He touched so many lives and he will be missed by all. We send our condolences to his family.

Monsignor Karl will be greatly missed by all of St Mary's in Bethel and our condolences go to his family, parishioners and all who fondly remembered him. I was especially remembering his kindness and warmth. I only met him when visiting my daughter's family in Bethel, but remember him for all the "extras" he did during out grandchild's christening and during mass. He was truly a gift to the Catholic religion.

Condolences to the Karl Family. I remember Father Karl as a teenager at Holy Family Parish in Fairfield. He was such a fixture in the church. We (my friends and myself), were a little afraid of him, but he was instrumental in my attending CYO dances, singing in the folk mass, teaching CCD and attending Mass (which I still do to this day). My prayers go out to his family.

I have many fond memories of Msgr. Karl growing up at Holy Family Parish in Fairfield. He always had a smile or a hug for you, but what I will always remember was his love of singing. He had a wonderful singing voice. I looked forward to him celebrating mass so I could enjoy his homilies as well as his wonderful singing. May you rest in peace, Edward B. Karl.

It's true that memories can make you sad and remind you of things you've lost. But they can also provide comfort and make you smile. Our wonderful memories of Father Karl have allowed us to remember lessons learned and to recall past pleasures of all kinds that we shared with him while living in Bethel. Please accept our condolences.

The one thing I will truly miss is Father Karl at Christmas time saying the lecture "One Solitary Man" no one can compare to Monsignor Karl saying this. My son & I had the pleasure of one of the trips to NYC with his 8th grade class. Monsignor Karl brought lots of candy for everyone. I am so sorry for the difficult time he went through. I am sorry for the loss. Our sincere sympathy. The Beauvais

Father Karl,

My earliest memories of you are of Christmas, you invited the kids to hang handmade ornaments on the altar tree and nestle down on the steps of the old church to have you read us a Christmas story. I still cherish how warm, safe, and divinely loved you made me feel. Being in your presence, I felt God's love.

Knowing God's love has made me recognize the blessings I have and has given me strength when I couldn't see the blessing through the lesson I was learning. Thank you for lending me your ear and giving me support during the difficult times and for sharing the joy in the happy ones. I am truly blessed to have known you as I'm sure countless others are.

A favorite song of yours says:
"Just remember that in the winter, far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed, that with the sun’s love in the spring becomes the rose".

Your love, God's love, has helped countless people to blossom and beautify our world. Thank you. May the love of your parish, friends, and especially your family guide you home to live with the Lord and be reunited with those who have passed on before you.

My deepest condolences to all who knew you, especially your family and friends, may they find comfort in the legacy you have left in each of us.

I will always remember when Msgr. Karl used to bring his German Shepherd "Lady" to visit us at St. Mary School. I'm sure it drove Sister Anne nuts, but we loved it. He also used to take the altar servers to Dr. Mike's for ice cream after helping out at Rosary and Benediction services. He was a very spiritual and loving priest, and he helped many people maintain their faith through difficult times. May he rest in peace.

Father Karl always loved to be with the children. Every Dec. he treated the 8th grade class at St. Mary School to the Radio City Christmas Show. I think he bought the tickets in August! He wanted them to see the very moving Nativity presentation at the end of the show, and it was worth a bus trip with noisy adolescents to do so. That's one of my favorite memories of Fr. Karl. May he rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to Father's family. Father presided over our wedding, the baptism of our two children, the funeral of my young husband and father, and that of my mother. Such a good and kind man, we would follow him in his priestly duties so that he could be present to share in our happiness and at times, our sadness. To know Father, was to be blessed.

Fr. Karl was such a big part of my life growing up. We counted the collection on my parents kitchen table. We played contract rummy. He took me fishing for the first time. He proudly gave me a grand tour of his renovated church and rectory when we went to meet with him before our wedding. He presided at my wedding 4 years ago and in his homily asked if there was time for a quick nine holes. I was so very fond of him. May he rest in peace. My deepest condolences to all of you.
