Elizabeth Collins Obituary

COLLINS Elizabeth (Betty) Keane Collins, age 77 of the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, devoted wife of the late Raymond Collins, passed away peacefully in St. Vincent's Medical Center on February 1, 2011 while in the presence of her loving family. She will be remembered by her four children, Maureen Elizabeth Pelletier, and her husband, Bill of Black Rock, Timothy R. Collins, and his wife, Colleen of Wolcott, Patricia Elaine Mulhall, and her husband, William of Milford, and James J. Collins, and his wife, Amy of Black Rock; 18 grandchildren, Patrick, Amy (and her husband Adam O'Feeney), Meghan, Timothy, Michaela, Kevin, and Keane Pelletier, Matthew, Tara, Kaelee, Ryan, and Rachel Collins, William and Kathleen Mulhall, Mary, Grace, Charles, and John Collins; one sister, Catherine Ann Jermain, and her husband, Jerome of Milford; three brothers-in-law, Jack Collins of Huntington, Edward Collins, and his wife, Jean of Milford, and Robert DeLasho of Croton, N.Y.; three sisters-in-law, Marilyn Beutel of Milford, Irene Clark, and her husband, Robert of Milford, Betty Collins of Huntington; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband of 44 years, Raymond, she was predeceased by her parents, F. James and Elizabeth Skane Keane; two sisters, Peggy DeLasho, Mary Lou Andersen, and her husband, Harold (Andy); one brother, Thomas Keane; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Harris, and her husband, William, and Janet Collins; two brothers-in-law, William Collins and Leo Buetel. A lifelong resident of Bridgeport, she was a graduate of St. Patrick Grammar School, Class of 1947, and Central High School, Class of 1951. Upon marrying the love of her life, she settled in Black Rock, where she raised her family. Betty worked for Collins Pharmacy and SNET before becoming a paraprofessional with Bridgeport's Board of Education. As a volunteer for many years, she shared her passion for reading with the first grade students of St. Ann's School. A devout Catholic and faithful supporter of St. Ann Parish, Betty remained active in many volunteer roles for the betterment of her community, and successfully instilled the importance of that value in her children. A dedicated wife, loving mother and grandmother, Betty joyously anticipated the coming of her first great-grandchild. She embraced every opportunity to gather with her extended family, often preparing the most delicious meals to share. She deeply loved her family and friends, and was loved by each in return. She was so very happy and content with all God had given her and she created the happiest of homes. Her warm touch and smile will be remembered and missed by all. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road in Fairfield Center. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Ann Church, in Black Rock. Her interment in Mountain Grove Cemetery will immediately follow and be private.
