Elizabeth McDonald Obituary

Elizabeth McDonald
Torrington - Elizabeth Anne McDonald, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Lunabrook Village in Torrington. She was the beloved wife of Duncan McDonald for 56 years.
Betty was born in Brighton, MA, on June 21, 1941, daughter of the late Robert and Eleanore (Woodford) Smith. She was raised in Bridgeport, CT, where she attended Sheridan Grade School and Central High School. Betty attended Southern Connecticut State University and went on to teach mathematics at Trumbull High School.
Betty and her husband, Duncan, were married at St. John's Episcopal Church in Bridgeport on June 21, 1969. She resided with her husband in Monroe for 26 years before moving to Torrington in 1996.
An equestrian, she participated in many horse show jumping events throughout Connecticut. She was a member and secretary of the Ladies Valley Bowling League for many years.
An avid gardener, she was an active member of the Goshen Garden Club and the New Hartford Garden Club. Much of the spring, summer, and fall seasons were spent in her own garden. She also loved music and spent time at her piano.
Betty was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Torrington, where she was also a longtime member of the Altar Guild. A volunteer at heart, she often participated as a Volunteer Driver for the Cancer Society.
Although her long-time illness gradually diminished her participation in many activities, her spirit of kindness, care, and concern for others never wavered.
Memorial services and burial in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington, will be held on a date and time to be announced.
