Eugene "Gene" Scoran
SCORAN – Eugene "Gene" Scoran, age 92, formerly of Fairfield, died Saturday, October 14, 2023. For the past 67 years he was the devoted husband of Mary Deegan Scoran. Gene earned his BS at the University of Connecticut, his MS at Fordham University and his 6th Year Certificate in Administration from Fairfield University. He served in the US Army as 1st Lt. from 1954–1956. Gene was employed as a chemist for Burndy Corp. in Norwalk from 1960-1970. He was a teacher of chemistry at Greenwich HS from 1970-1996 and served as Adjunct Assistant Professor at Bridgeport Engineering Institute. Gene also worked as a substitute teacher at Greens Farms Academy, Unquowa School and Fairfield Schools from 1997-2016. He was a member of American Chemical Society, including being past president of the Western Conn. Division, and chairman of Visiting Scientist Committee for 20 years. He was a lifelong devoted parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fairfield having served as lector and substitute usher. Gene is also survived by nieces, Kathleen Deegan and Carol Deegan; nephews Eric Jones and Jeffrey Jones; several grandnephews and grandnieces, great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces, and many cousins. Special thanks to Jerry and Louise. He was predeceased by his sister Eleanor Jones; brother-in-law John Deegan, sister-in-law Ann Depp and her husband John, nephew John Depp, and nieces Margaret Lukacsy and Kathleen Depp. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by a committal service, with military honors, at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. Friends may call on Thursday from 3-5 p.m. at the FAIRFIELD FUNERAL HOME of EDMUND W. DOUGIELLO, 36 South Pine Creek Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gene's memory to a charity of your choosing.
