Frank Romano Obituary

ROMANO Frank (Pop) Romano, age 81, beloved husband of Aurora (Rhoda) DeLeo Romano, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at St.Vincent's Medical Center after facing many medical challenges with courage and dignity. Born in Stamford, he lived there for 57 years and moved to Fairfield in 1984. Frank served in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed on the USS Dentuda in the Hawaiian Islands. After the war, he continued his service through the United States Naval Reserves until 1955. A retired Stamford Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service, Frank previously worked for Globe Slicing Machine Company and Herrick's Dairy. As a youth, he was a talented athlete playing baseball in the Stamford area and was a lifelong New York Yankee Fan. While raising their family, Frank and Rhoda enjoyed camping and later, traveled extensively, including eight trips to Hawaii. He was a member of the VFW Post 9427 in Fairfield. Many wonderful memories will be cherished by his family whom he loved deeply. In addition to his devoted wife, Rhoda, of almost 59 years, he is survived by his children, Mary Ellen Hagedus, who was his daily caregiver and her husband, Richard, of Fairfield, Frank W. Romano of Fairfield and Peter Romano and his wife, Jan, of Rome, Ga.; grandchildren, Adrian and Renee Romano, both of Virginia, Alicia Romano, of New York, Caroline Romano of Georgia and Caitlin and Jake Hagedus, both of Fairfield; former daughter-in-law, Rita Romano of Virginia; two sisters, Barbara Romano of Stamford and Antoinette Bartolo of Norwalk; one brother, James Romano of New Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Arthur, Anthony and Richard; one sister, Katherine. His family wishes to acknowledge the many healthcare specialists for their compassionate care for Frank over the years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 9 at 11 a.m. in St.Paul's Episcopal Church, 661 Old Post Road in Fairfield.
