Gabriele Kallenborn
Gabriele Kallenborn, 70, of Westport, passed away on September 16, after a heart attack.
Gabriele was born on August 15, in Germany. She lived in Switzerland, Peru, and Argentina before settling in the United States.
After graduating with a degree in Naturopathic Medicine from The National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon, she started her practice in Westport as a Naturopathic Doctor, a successful career she loved for over 30 years.
Gabriele is survived by her daughter, Anna. She was preceded in death by her husband, Goran, father Josef, and mother Johanna.
She was a Renaissance woman, whose interests included bee keeping, making wine, watching opera, learning new languages, biking and painting. She loved sharing her talents and knowledge with her large group of friends.
Services will be held at Compo Beach in October. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Friends of Culebra Animals, Inc., a non-profit organization that helps re-home dogs and cats from Puerto Rico. It's an organization she cared about and contributed to over the years.
She will be remembered as someone who lived life to the fullest.

Dear Anna, my name is Kathleen Apy and I only met your dear mother once. As her patient she helped me with getting rid of a terrible addiction to sugar and a diet for my blood type. It has made a huge difference in my life. When I mentioned to Dr. Overland, who referred me to her, that I would call her when I left his office, he sadly informed me of her untimely passing. I am heart-sick because we had a special connection and she said, "Don't worry, it will take a while, but I will help you with your problem." When I told her that I was too weak to give up sugar she said, "No you aren't because you gave up smoking and drinking. You are brave!" With your mother's and God's help, my sugar addiction is gone and I have lost 11 pounds so far. Please accept my deepest sympathy and know that I loved her. I would like to attend the memorial if you will let me. My email is [email protected]. Sincerely, Kathleen Apy (patient of Dr. Overland).

She also loved golf, British detective shows, knew how to dress a deer, and was a great cook! When I met her 30 years ago, she was re-upholstering her own furniture :D

Gabrielle was a very impressive lady with so many deep interests. We will always picture her surrounded by friends at beach picnics. She was a great cook with social ease, and very respected and well liked. We know her beautiful, intelligent daughter Anna well through her friendship with our daughter in high school. She introduced us to her Mom. We liked to tell our friends about Gabrielle´s numerous talents and significant capabilities, from making wine out of rose hips in her yard to hunting deer, curing maladies and fearlessly learning golf. While she had the challenge of single parenting she truly made the best of everything and continued to be engaged with friends and the community. May she rest in peace.
