George Ramia Obituary

RAMIA George P. Ramia Jr., age 78, of Shelton, entered into rest on Saturday morning, May 17, 2003, at St. VincentTs Medical Center, Bridgeport, with his family by his side. He was the devoted husband of 58 years to Alma DuBail Ramia. He was born in Shelton, March 6, 1925, son of the late George P. and Catherine Nash Ramia, and was a lifelong resident of Shelton. George retired in 1990 from the New England Engineering Co. as a millwright after 20 years of employment. George was an avid hunter and fisherman and was involved in many civic and community organizations including the King Hiram Lodge No. 12, AF & AM for more than 40 years. He was an active member of Democratic politics in Shelton during the 50Ts and 60Ts and was the last person to serve as a police commissioner during the Tisi administration, a position he held for more than five years. He was also employed as a Motor Vehicle inspector for the State of Connecticut, and was the owner and operator of GeorgeTs Sunoco Service Station on Howe Avenue in Shelton for 10 years. He was also a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the South Pacific. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a daughter, Darlene Ann Rogg and her husband, George; and a son, Shelton High School Head Master, Donald K. Ramia and his wife, Kathy, all of Shelton. He was the brother of Joseph Ramia of Shelton, Thomas (Zeke) Ramia of Seymour, Rose Storiale of Derby, Emiline McCabe of Lynn, Mass., Eva Ogle of Shelton, Catherine Ebling of Irmo, S.C., and Mary Ellen Ramia of Shelton. He was also the proud grandfather of Jeff Ramia of Cromwell, and Marc Ramia of Shelton. George was predeceased by his loving daughter, Deborah Jean Ramia; and his sister, Sally Pagliaro. His funeral will leave the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. for a service with the Holy Eucharist in St. PaulTs Church on Church Street in Huntington Center, at 11 a.m. with the Rector Rev. Eric Turner officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Lawn Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Monday in the funeral home from 3 to 7 p.m. At the request of the family, contributions may be made to the Deborah Jean Ramia Scholarship Fund to benefit students at Shelton High School, 120 Meadow Street, Shelton, CT 06484. The King Hiram Lodge will gather at 6:30 p.m. for a service on Monday at the funeral home.
