George Zwally Obituary

George William Zwally, age 82, died Wednesday May 19, 2021. George was the son of the late George and Winifred (Burns) Zwally and was born on July 10, 1938 in Flushing, NYC and was raised in Brooklyn NYC. George was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps having served during the Korean Era from 1955-1959. He met and married his wife, Barbara and moved to Bridgeport in 1959. He retired from the Bridgeport Police Department where he was, among many accomplishments there, a training officer. Survivors include his beloved wife, Barbara Zwally, and two sons, George Robert Zwally( and wife Paula), of Monroe, and David Thomas Zwally of Bridgeport. He is also survived by his precious grandchildren, Kirsten Marie and George Steven of Monroe. George was pre-deceased by his brother, Frank and is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Buttofocco, Winifred Borden (Robert) and Carol Callahan ( Dennis); and his brother James Zwally (Barbara), Peter Zwally, John Zwally and Kenneth Zwally. He is also leaves behind his cherished brothers and sister-in-law and many dear nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 pm at the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Ave, Bridgeport. Burial will be in Lawncroft Cemetery in Fairfield. To Mrs. Barbara Zwally, sons and extended family,
George Zwally was a good friend that I met while he was teaching at the City of Bridgeport Police Academy.
During my 50 + years of Law Enforcement, George stands out as one of the true professionals that was a true example of someone that knew policing from the trenches and his participation in state of the art training courses.
His dedication to his chosen profession was exemplary. His family can rest assured that the knowledge shared by George with his colleagues and the public made the City of Bridgeport a better place to work and live.
I will miss him dearly.

My Deepest Condolences to George’s Family and Friends on his passing. I became acquainted with George in our Rookie Bridgeport Police Class in 1967. He was an easy going and well liked gentleman. May he Rest In Peace in Eternal Heaven.
