Ilse Levi Obituary

Ilse S. Levi, age 100, of Bridgeport, CT, and formerly of Stratford, CT passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Mozaic Senior Life, 4200 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.
Ilse was the daughter of Leni and Hermann Strauss, and loving sister of the late Betty May. Ilse was married to her husband, Peter Levi until his death in 1997.
Ilse was a member of Congregation B'nai Israel of Bridgeport, CT for over 50 years, and was very active. She maintained lifetime memberships with ORT, Hadassah, B'nai Brith Women, Women's Auxiliary of the Jewish Home for the Elderly, League of Women Voters, and Greater Bridgeport Retired Teachers Association. She was a dedicated volunteer. Ilse spoke to many groups about her experiences about living in Nazi Germany.
Ilse is survived by three devoted children, Marjorie Fabe and her husband Jeffrey of Cincinnati, OH, Harold Levi and his wife Kim of Silver Spring, MD, and Diane Law and her husband Jeffrey of Stratford, CT. Also, Ilse adored her grandchildren, Marcy Marklay (Steve), Bryan Krol (Lupe), Allison Levi Rabin (David), Erica Levi Zelinger (Steven), Mark Law (Beth), and Wendy Millenson (Geoff), and her eleven great-grandchildren, Ryan Marklay, Alexander and Nicholas Krol, Jacob and Alexa Rabin, Zoey and Elliott Zelinger, Matthew and Rebecca Law, and Cayden and Riley Millenson, and she cherished her loving relationship with her niece, Ruth Meyer and her husband Ed Rubovitz.
Ilse was a dedicated teacher at Bassick High school in Bridgeport, CT from 1956 to 1962, teaching English and German and was also a guidance counselor. She then taught at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, CT from 1962 until her retirement; teaching English, German and French.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 10th at 10:00 a.m. at Congregation B'nai Israel, 2710 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, CT with burial to follow at B'nai Israel Cemetery, 181 Kings Highway, Fairfield, CT.
Shiva will be observed at Congregation B'nai Israel on Wednesday, May 10 from 4:00-8:00.

Mrs. Levi was my French teacher at Brien McMahon in 1965-1966. I remember her well, and am glad to see she lived a long life with a large family. My condolences to all her family and friends. I am sure she will be missed. Virginia McVarish, Cambridge, MA
