Irving Tishler Obituary

TISHLER Your dear friend loved by all, Irving Tishler, completed his journey to his final resting place on Friday, October 19, 2007, passing in his "gentlemanly manor" at home in Fairfield with his wife at his side. After a brief illness with a complicated neurological degenerative disease, he joins his middle son Eric, who made his transition on August 18, 2004. His beloved wife, Sheila of 52 years, sons, Mitch of Chatham, Cape Cod, Mass. and Jason of Munsey Park, Manhasset, N.Y. and five grandchildren were forever the light of his life. His family moved from his birthplace, Bronx, N.Y. to Norwalk when he was 12 years old. He graduated from the original Norwalk High School and proudly did Title Examining there (now City Hall) for the past 20 years. Prior he was the V.P. of Textile Engineering at the family knitwear business, Diane Knit Fabrics until its closing in 1986. A dedicated member to the community, he served as Advisor to Teen Summer Theatre programs at the NJCC, Key Club Advisor as a Kiwanian, was a past Chancellor of the Knights of Pythians and was also a devoted volunteer at the Fairfield Public Library. A man of many interests he continued learning with adult education courses in classical music (Mozart his favorite), foreign languages and history of Native Americans. As an active participant in sports he enjoyed swimming regularly at the Westport Y for the past 30 years, tennis, fishing with his boys and hiking. His favorite past time was travel with his wife and three sons. A trained photographer during his tour of duty in the US Army during the Korean War, he built speed graphic press cameras in the Signal Corp and continued photography pursuits in his home dark room. Musically he sang with the Temple Shalom Choir and also pursued his passion for dancing which began in his teen years. The family wishes to aid brain research suggesting memorial gifts in his name to Columbia University Medical Center, The Taub Institute c/o Jane Sherman, 630 W. 168th Street, P&S Box 16, New York, NY 10032. Private services for the family with a memorial service for friends and the community to be announced. Family and friends are welcome this Saturday and Sunday at the Fairfield Tishler residence. A notice about a future Shiva period will be announced too.
