James Englis Obituary

James Englis
James G. Englis, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, in East Haven at the age of 90. James was born on March 11, 1934, in Fairfield. He was the son of the late George and Anna Farlekas Englis and brother of the late, Stella Capiris. James was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle as well as an Army Veteran and attorney.
In 1958, James met the love of his life, Angela Balasalle. They were married on November 27, 1966, at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Boston, where they originally met during a Greek dance.
James' priority was family and dedicated his life to his wife and children. James graduated from Yale University and Columbia University and practiced law for over 50 years. As President of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Bridgeport, he led the construction of the current church building. During retirement he played the trumpet, sang with the Yale Men's Glee Club, and volunteered giving tours at the Peabody Museum. His quiet nature would lead him back to what he treasured most, his family. Dad was always there for birthdays and holidays. He loved traveling all over to be with his wife and children. His goal was never to be a burden to his family and do whatever it took to help them succeed. All his children agree that James succeeded showing love, compassion, and at times, sturdy advice.
In addition to his loving wife Angela of 58 years, James leaves behind his two sons, George Englis (Alyssa) and Colonel Michael Englis (Evelyn), and his daughter, Anna Murray (James). The grandchildren that call him Papou; Grace, Emme, Sewtana, Cristine, James, Luis, Michael Jr., Peter, Angela and great grandson, Benicio and nephew, Christopher Capiris (Marie).
The Rite of Burial will take place on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Avenue, Bridgeport officiated by Father Georgios Livaditis Presbyter, followed by entombment in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield. Calling hours will be held on Monday morning from 10am until the time of services in the church. The Commerce Hill Dougiello Funeral Home, 4798 Main St., Bridgeport, has been entrusted with the funeral services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Church Iconography Project in memory of James. For online condolences, to light a virtual candle and donate, visit us at commercehillfh.com
